Ways to Outsmart Your Pollen Allergies
- If
you spend a lot of time outdoors, change your clothes
as soon as you come inside so you don't carry pollen into
the house.
-
Because
pollen accumulates on your hair, it's a good idea to
wash your hair before going to bed. This keeps the pollen
from getting on you pillow, where it can stay until
you wash it.
-
Don't
hang clothes or bed linens out to dry, where pollen
can stick to them.
-
Keep
the windows closed in your home and your car, and turn
the air conditioner on if necessary. Once pollen gets
inside, it can continue to circulate in the air for
days.
-
Pollen
counts are highest in the late morning and early afternoon,
so it may help to avoid being outdoors during these
times.
-
Wear
a mask and/or goggles if working in the yard for an
extended period of time.
-
Follow
the pollen counts to gage the seasonal trend in pollen
levels, to better plan your activities.
-
During
the peak of the season, plan a vacation to an area where
the pollen is less severe.
-
Pets
that spend a lot of time outdoors can accumulate pollen
on their fur. Wash or rinse them off before allowing
them inside.
-
Talk
with your doctor about other treatment options. Many
of the newest medications available for the treatment
of allergies are very effective with minimal risk of
side effects. Also, an allergist can prescribe an immunization
program tailored for your specific allergies that will
significantly reduce or even eliminate your symptoms.
Get help, don't suffer.
